Space Shuttle Mission 2007

Okay kiddo, do you know what a space shuttle is? It's like a really big rocket that goes up into space and has people inside, like astronauts.

So in 2007, there was a mission called STS-118, and it was a very important one because it was going to take some special things up into space.

First, the space shuttle had a special piece of equipment called the S5 truss, which is kind of like a really big metal beam. They needed to attach it to the International Space Station (ISS) so that the space station could have more electricity and places to connect stuff to.

But before they could do that, they needed to fix something else on the ISS. There was this thing called a rotary joint that's kind of like a big wheel that helps the solar panels move around to get more sunlight. But it wasn't working right, and the astronauts had to replace some parts so that it would work again.

Also, there were some exercises and experiments that the astronauts did while they were up there. They even got to talk to some people on Earth over the phone and video chat, which must have been really cool!

After about two weeks in space, the space shuttle and the astronauts safely came back down to Earth. It was a very successful mission, and it helped make sure that the ISS could keep working properly.
