Spawning bed

A spawning bed is a special place where certain animals called fish can lay their eggs. Imagine a cozy little nest that a bird might make for its eggs, but underwater instead of in a tree. Fish pick a spot on a gravel bottom where the water flows just right and makes a little hill or depression in the rocks. They carefully lay their eggs there and then swim away, leaving the eggs to hatch on their own. This special spot that the fish chose to lay their eggs in is called a spawning bed. It's sort of like a hotel room for baby fish because it gives them a safe and comfy place to start their lives.
