Special administrative regions of China

Okay kiddo, so you know how China is a really big country with lots of people and different places. Some of the places in China are called special administrative regions.

These special places are Hong Kong and Macau. They are special because they get to have their own set of rules and laws that are different from the rest of China.

That means they have their own government, police, and economy. They also get to use different money than the rest of China.

These special administrative regions were created because Hong Kong and Macau used to be ruled by other countries before they became part of China again. So, China wanted to give them some autonomy, or independence, to help them keep their unique cultures and identities.

That's pretty much what special administrative regions are, they're just special places within China with their own set of rules and laws.
