Species richness

Species richness is the number of different kinds of plants and animals that live in a certain area. For example, if you go to a park, there may be a lot of different types of birds and insects, so the park is said to have a high species richness. Species richness helps us understand how healthy an ecosystem is since different types of plants and animals help the environment.
