ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Speech processing

Speech processing is when a computer or a machine tries to understand what a person is saying. Think of it like talking to your friend, but your friend is a robot!

The robot listens to your words and then tries to understand what you are trying to say. It does this by breaking up your words into different parts, like the sounds you make when you say each letter. It then puts those sounds together to form words and sentences.

Sometimes, the robot may not be able to understand what you are saying, maybe because you are speaking too softly, too quickly, or with an accent. But with the help of special computers and algorithms, the robot can learn and improve over time.

Speech processing is used in many different things like speech recognition software, voice assistants like Siri or Alexa, and even to help people who have difficulty speaking. It's pretty cool how machines can understand what we are saying, just like how we can understand our friends when they talk to us!
