ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Spherical sector

Okay kiddo, picture a big round ball. A spherical sector is like taking a slice of that ball, sort of like cutting a pizza into just a piece or a part. But instead of a flat slice, it's still curved like the round ball. Imagine a piece of pizza that's still round on one side and gets smaller and pointier on the other side. That's a spherical sector!

Now, let's think about this more mathematically. A spherical sector is a 3D shape that's made by cutting a sphere with a plane (like a giant knife). The sphere has a center point, and the slice that we cut is like a piece of pie with a curved edge. The curved edge is a circle, which we call the base of the spherical sector.

The pointy part of the slice is called the vertex of the spherical sector. The distance from the vertex to the center point of the sphere is called the height of the spherical sector, just like the height of a pizza slice. And, the curved edge of the spherical sector has a length, which we call the circumference of the base.

So, a spherical sector is a 3D shape that has a curved base, a pointy top, a height from the tip to center, and a circumference around the base. It's like a slice of pizza, but instead of being flat, it's curved like a ball!
