Spline (mathematics)

Splines are a way of making smooth curves out of a bunch of straight lines. Imagine if you had to connect ten points on a piece of paper with straight lines, but you want a curve that goes through all the points. A spline is like a bunch of connected rubber bands that you can pull and squish around to make the smooth curve without taking away any of the points.
