ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Splitboard

A splitboard is a snowboard that is specially designed to be able to split into two separate pieces. This allows the snowboarder to hike up a mountain or traverse through deep snow, by using special bindings and skins on the bottom of the board, and then reattach the two pieces together to snowboard down the mountain.

Think of it like playing with Legos. You have a big Lego piece, which is like the regular snowboard that you use to go downhill. But then you can take that big piece and split it in half, just like if you took a big Lego piece and pulled it apart. Now you have two smaller pieces, and you can snap them back together when you want to ride down the mountain.

The special binding on each half of the splitboard allows you to wear regular snowboard boots when you're hiking uphill, so you don't need special hiking boots. The skins are special, sticky material that attach to the bottom of the board to give you traction as you climb up steep slopes.

Splitboarding is different from regular snowboarding because you have to work harder to hike up the mountain, but it allows you to explore new areas that are not accessible by ski lifts or regular snowboarding. It's also a great workout and lets you enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the mountains in a unique way.
