Stab-in-the-back legend

The Stab-in-the-Back Legend is a story that people made up to explain why Germany lost World War One. The story said that the people at home in Germany, not the soldiers fighting on the front lines, were to blame for the loss. They said that these people “stabbed” the soldiers in the back by giving up or not supporting them enough. This story was made up to help people feel better about the loss and to take away blame from the leaders of the war.
