ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stabilization while not underway

Okay kiddo, so you know how when a boat is moving in the water it might rock back and forth a little bit, right? Well, sometimes we want the boat to stay still in the water but it still might rock around because of waves or currents.

To make the boat stay more still, people use something called stabilization. Just like how you might hold onto your toys to stay balanced when you're on a moving bus, boats can use special things to help them stay balanced in the water.

One way boats can stabilize is by using things called fins or gyroscopes. These are like little helpers that sit underwater and move around to keep the boat steady. Another way is by using weights or tanks filled with water or air to help balance the boat.

So even if the boat isn't moving, it can still use these techniques to make sure it stays nice and steady in the water. Pretty cool, huh?
