State sponsors of terrorism are countries that are labeled by the United States of America as countries that knowingly or unknowingly help or provide support for groups that carry out terrorist activities. These countries can help terrorists in a number of ways, like giving them money, weapons, training, and a place to hide. Those countries are placed on a list made by the United States. This list helps the United States decide how to deal with those countries. Countries on the list can be punished in certain ways, like being put under sanctions or not allowed to trade with the United States.
