Step pyramid

Imagine building a tall tower out of blocks. But instead of just stacking them up one on top of the other, you start by putting one block on the ground. Then on top of that first block, you put another one but slightly off center, so that it sits partly on the first block and partly hanging over the edge. You keep adding more and more blocks in this way, each one a little smaller than the one before it, until you have a tower that looks like steps going up. This is called a step pyramid!

Step pyramids were built a long time ago in ancient Egypt as giant tombs for pharaohs, who were very important rulers. The most famous step pyramid is called the Pyramid of Djoser, which was built about 4,700 years ago! It was made of huge blocks of limestone and stood around 60 meters tall. The pyramid had a narrow passage that led to a burial chamber deep inside, where the pharaoh's body was placed with all of their treasures.

So, in summary, a step pyramid is a tall tower made of blocks stacked in a way that makes it look like steps going up. They were built a long time ago in ancient Egypt as tombs for pharaohs, and the most famous one is the Pyramid of Djoser.
