ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sterling silver

Sterling silver is a special kind of metal that looks really pretty and shiny, and is often used to make jewelry and other things people wear on their bodies. It's made out of two main things: silver, which is a shiny metal that is kind of like aluminum foil, and another metal called copper, which is brownish and hard.

When you mix silver and copper together, you get something that is strong enough to be used for all sorts of things like bracelets, necklaces, and even silverware that you eat with. The mixture is called "sterling" because at least 92.5% of it is actually silver, and the rest is copper.

Even though sterling silver is really pretty and special, it can also be very expensive because of the value of pure silver. Some people even collect it like they would collect baseball cards or other special things. But you have to be careful, because sometimes people can trick you and sell you fake sterling silver that isn't actually made of real silver and copper. So always make sure you buy from a trustworthy seller, and if you're not sure, ask an adult for help!
