ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Strong interaction

Okay kiddo, so you remember how everything in the world is made up of tiny things called atoms, right?

Now, inside those atoms there are even tinier things called protons and neutrons. These protons and neutrons hang out together in the middle of the atom.

But, protons have a problem, they don't really like each other because they are all positively charged. And you know how when you try to push two magnets together that have the same charge, they push each other away? Well, the same thing happens with protons.

This is where the strong interaction comes in. The strong interaction is like a glue that holds the protons and neutrons together in the center of the atom.

It's called the "strong" interaction because it's really powerful and can hold these positively charged particles together even though they naturally want to push apart.

So, without the strong interaction, atoms would fall apart and everything in the world would be very different.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.
