Sturm und Drang

Sturm und Drang means "storm and drive" in German. It is a style of literature and music that began in the late 18th century. It was a reaction against the classical values of order, reason and balance that were popular in Europe during the time. Sturm und Drang focused on the emotions and inner experience of individuals rather than the accepted rules of society. Its works were often dark, intense, and full of conflict and emotion. Some of the most famous Sturm und Drang authors include Goethe and Schiller. Musically, the style often included energetic rhythms and climactic endings.
