Sugar panning

Ok kiddo, so you know how sometimes candy has shiny, colorful coatings on it? That's called sugar panning! It's a process where candies are coated with a thin layer of sugar syrup to make them look pretty and taste better.

First, they make a sugar syrup by boiling water and sugar together until it becomes thick and sticky. Then, they pour the syrup over the candy and roll it around until it's completely covered.

Next comes the fun part - adding color! Sometimes they use natural food colorings, like from fruits and vegetables. Other times they use artificial dyes to make the candy really bright and eye-catching.

Finally, they let the candy sit and dry for a few hours until the sugar coating hardens. Then it's ready to be packaged up and sold!

So that's sugar panning, kiddo. It's a way to make candy look and taste extra special. Yum!
