ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Surf kayaking

Surf kayaking is when you take a special type of kayak, called a surf kayak, and use it to surf waves in the ocean.

A surf kayak is different from a regular kayak because it is shorter and wider, which helps it stay stable on the waves. It also has fins on the bottom, like a surfboard, that help it turn and maneuver on the waves.

To surf kayak, you first need to find a good spot with waves that are big enough to surf but not too big that they become dangerous.

Once you find the right spot, you paddle out into the ocean and wait for a wave to come. When you see a good wave, you turn the kayak towards the shore and start paddling as fast as you can to catch the wave.

If you catch the wave successfully, you use the fins on the bottom of the kayak to guide it and make turns as you ride the wave towards the shore.

Surf kayaking can be a really fun and thrilling way to enjoy the ocean, but it’s important to always be safe and follow proper precautions to avoid accidents.
