Sustainable drainage system

A sustainable drainage system (SDS) is a way of managing rainwater so that it does not hurt the environment. In some places, when it rains, the water can run off hard surfaces like roads and sidewalks and flow straight into rivers and streams. This can harm the animals living there because it brings in too much water, too quickly. With an SDS, the rainwater is stored in a special area like a green roof, pond, or soil. This helps the water move slowly and soaks into the ground, where it can be used by plants and animals later on.
