ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Synchronized swimming

Synchronized swimming is like doing a very fancy dance in the water with a group of friends. It's almost like a swimming meets ballet. The swimmers perform choreographed moves and use music to help them stay in time together.

To do synchronized swimming, the swimmers wear swimming caps and nose clips to help them stay underwater without water getting in their noses. They also often wear big, shiny costumes and put on lots of makeup so they look pretty while they swim.

The swimmers do lots of different moves like spinning, treading water, swimming in patterns, and even lifting their teammates up in the air. They practice these moves over and over again until they can do them perfectly in sync with their teammates.

Judges watch the synchronized swimmers perform and score them based on how well they perform their choreographed routine, how synchronized they are with their teammates, and how difficult their moves are to do.

Synchronized swimming is a very fun and challenging sport that requires lots of hard work and practice, but it looks beautiful when it’s done well!
