Syndesmotic screw

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of your ankle bones? Well, there's a special type of surgery called a syndesmotic screw that doctors use to fix them when they get hurt.

See, your ankle bones have something called a syndesmosis, which is a fancy word for a joint made up of ligaments that hold the bones together. Sometimes, if you twist your ankle really bad or have a bad fracture, those ligaments can get stretched out or torn, and the bones can move around too much.

That's where the syndesmotic screw comes in. It's a tiny metal rod that the doctor puts through holes in your bones to hold them in place while the ligaments heal. The screws are really small, but they're also really strong, so they can keep your bones from moving until you're all healed up.

It might sound a little scary, but don't worry - the doctor will give you anesthesia so you won't feel anything during the surgery. And after it's over, you'll be able to get back to playing and having fun before you know it!
