Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion

Our bodies make a special liquid called urine, which helps us get rid of waste. But sometimes, a hormone called antidiuretic hormone (ADH) can make us keep too much of this liquid inside our bodies and we don't peee enough. This is called the "syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion," or SIADH for short.

When our bodies make too much ADH, it can cause us to keep too much liquid inside, because ADH makes our kidneys keep more water and urine inside. This can lead to symptoms like feeling really sick, throwing up, feeling confused, and even seizures or coma.

Doctors can treat SIADH by giving medicines that block or lower the amount of ADH in our bodies. They'll also need to keep a close eye on things like our salt levels, because too much ADH can also make us keep too much salt in our bodies.

In short, SIADH is a condition where our bodies make too much of a hormone called ADH, which can cause us to keep too much liquid and salt inside our bodies and make us really sick. But doctors can help by giving us special medicines and keeping an eye on our salt levels.
