Take Up Thy Cross, The Saviour Said

So, you know how when you see a superhero or a knight in a movie, they always have a weapon or a shield that they carry with them? It helps them protect themselves and others from bad guys. Well, in the Bible, Jesus also talks about carrying something called a cross.

Now, a cross is a special kind of wooden stick with another shorter stick on top of it, in the shape of a plus sign (+). Back in Jesus's time, people who had done something wrong or were considered bad would be made to carry a cross as a punishment. It was really heavy and hard to carry for a long time, and it was also a way for people to show that they were ashamed or sorry for what they did.

But when Jesus says "Take up thy cross," he doesn't mean that we have to carry a heavy piece of wood around like a punishment. Rather, he means that we should be willing to put aside our own wants and needs, and be ready to do whatever it takes to follow him and do what's right, even if it is hard sometimes.

Sometimes this might mean doing something that's unpopular or uncomfortable, or it might mean giving up something we really want in order to help someone else. It can be tough, but Jesus says that if we follow him and take up our cross, we will be rewarded with eternal life and happiness in Heaven.
