ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Takenouchi-ryū

Takenouchi-ryū is a type of martial art that people practice to learn how to defend themselves. Like how you learn Tae-kwon-do or karate in school, some people learn Takenouchi-ryū.

The Takenouchi-ryū style was created a really long time ago in Japan, and was first taught to warriors and samurais (really cool fighters with swords). Over time, it became a popular way for regular people to learn self-defense too.

The special thing about Takenouchi-ryū is that it focuses on using your whole body to fight - not just your fists or feet. It also includes throws and joint locks. So, instead of just hitting someone, you can use their own body weight against them to take them down instead.

In class, you'll learn different moves and techniques from your instructor. You'll practice with a partner to see how each move works in a real situation. Some people practice for fun, some for fitness, and others to protect themselves.

Remember though, always use these moves responsibly and only in a real situation where you need to defend yourself!
