Teleconnection

Teleconnection is like a game of telephone between different places on Earth. You know how when you whisper a secret to someone, and they whisper it to someone else, and so on, eventually the secret can change by the time it gets back to you? That's kind of like teleconnection, but with weather patterns instead of secrets.

Sometimes, weather patterns in one place on Earth can affect weather patterns in another place far away. It's sort of like a ripple effect. When a big wave happens in the ocean, it can create smaller waves far away. Similarly, when something happens in one part of the atmosphere, it can affect the weather in another part of the atmosphere.

Scientists study teleconnections to help predict weather patterns around the world. For example, if there is a strong El Niño in the Pacific Ocean (which is a warming of the waters that happens every few years), it can affect weather patterns in places like South America, North America, and even Asia. It can make some places more likely to have lots of rain, while other places might have droughts.
