Terefah controversy

Okay, kiddo, so there was this big argument a long time ago about what kinds of animals Jewish people were allowed to eat. They had some rules and guidelines called kashrut that said certain animals were okay to eat, and others were not.

But then, there was a disagreement about whether an animal was considered okay to eat if it had a certain kind of problem or illness. Some people said it was still okay, but others said it was not.

This disagreement became known as the terefah controversy, and it lasted for a while. People argued and debated about it, and eventually, they came up with a solution that said only very specific kinds of problems with an animal would make it not okay to eat.

So, in the end, they cleared up the confusion and made sure everyone knew the rules about what kinds of animals were allowed to be eaten.
