ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tessenjutsu

Tessenjutsu is a Japanese martial art that uses a fan, called a tessen, to fight. Just like you use your hands and feet to fight in karate or kung fu, people who practice tessenjutsu use their fan to fight.

Imagine holding a paper fan like the ones you might see in movies set in ancient China or Japan. But instead of using it to fan yourself, you use it to block strikes and hit your opponent. Tessenjutsu teaches you how to use the fan as a weapon.

Tessenjutsu is like a game of pretend-fighting, where you imagine that your fan is a sword or a shield. But it's not just make-believe - there are real techniques and moves that you learn, just like in any other martial art.

Some techniques in tessenjutsu are based on the movement of animals, like using your fan to mimic the wings of a bird or the claws of a tiger. Other techniques use the fan to trap your opponent's weapon or to strike at their pressure points.

Like any other martial art, practicing tessenjutsu requires focus, discipline, and training. But it's also a lot of fun to pretend to be a samurai warrior wielding a fan!
