Thanksgiving is a special day that is celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. It's a time when we give thanks and appreciate all the good things in our lives.
A long time ago, when the United States was still being settled by people from different countries, a group of English settlers called Pilgrims arrived on a ship called the Mayflower. They arrived in a place that is now called Massachusetts. The Pilgrims were very grateful to be in their new home and wanted to thank God for their safe arrival.
The Native Americans, who lived in the area, helped the Pilgrims learn how to farm and hunt for food. Eventually, after a year of hard work, the Pilgrims had a bountiful harvest and decided to celebrate a feast to give thanks for their good fortune.
The celebration lasted three days and included eating delicious food such as turkey, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce. The Pilgrims and Native Americans shared their food and enjoyed each other's company. This feast is known as the first Thanksgiving.
Today, many families celebrate Thanksgiving by getting together with loved ones and sharing a big meal. Some people even watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or watch football games. It's a time to appreciate what we have and be grateful for the people in our lives. It's a day to be thankful.
