ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Bible and violence

Okay little one, so the Bible is a very old book that tells stories about God and different people from a long, long time ago. Sometimes in the Bible there are stories about people doing bad things to each other, and that includes violence. But it's important to remember that the Bible was written in a different time when people had different beliefs and practices.

Some parts of the Bible talk about wars and battles, like when the Israelites fought against other groups of people. These stories may have included violent acts like killing or destruction. But it's important to understand that this was a different time and culture, and we don't believe that violence is a good thing in our world today.

Other parts of the Bible talk about God punishing people for their wrongdoing. Sometimes this was through things like natural disasters or plagues, and other times it was through more violent means. But again, we believe that God is a loving and forgiving God and would never condone violence as a way to solve problems.

So while the Bible does have some stories about violence, it's important to understand them in context and know that we should never use violence to solve our problems in today's world.
