Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a shiny diamond? It's the prettiest and most valuable stone in the world, but did you know that sometimes people can make diamonds in a lab too? Yep, it's true.
So, what they do is take a tiny, itty-bitty piece of diamond (smaller than a grain of sand) and put it inside a special machine. This machine is like a huge microwave which can get super hot, even hotter than the sun.
Inside this machine, they also put a special gas called methane which is made from molecules of carbon, the same stuff that makes up diamonds. The machine heats up the methane gas and puts it under high pressure, kind of like how you squeeze a ball really hard with your hand.
And then, magically, after a few weeks or months, a brand new diamond is formed. It's just like how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, but instead of time and nature, it's heat and pressure that transform the carbon molecules into a precious diamond.
These lab-grown diamonds may not have the same story or sentimental value as the natural diamonds that come from the earth, but they are just as sparkly and beautiful. Plus, they are much cheaper and eco-friendly too!
