ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The Heat of the Day

The heat of the day is when it feels really hot outside because of the sun. When the sun shines on the earth, it gives off something called heat. This heat makes the air around us warmer and when it gets really hot outside, that's the heat of the day. It's like when you hold a magnifying glass up to the sun and it makes things hotter – the sun is like a giant magnifying glass and makes everything around us hotter. So when it's hot outside, it's because of all the heat coming from the sun. That's why sometimes it's better to stay inside where it's cooler or wear light-colored clothes and drink lots of water to stay hydrated!
