The Silbón

The Silbón is a mythical creature of South American folklore. It is a large, ghost-like creature that looks like a skeleton with a straw hat and is said to wander the prairies at night, making a mournful noise as it goes. According to the legends, Silbones were once alive but were cursed by God to roam the world forever, never able to rest. The loud, plaintive cries of the Silbón are said to be a warning of death, foretelling the passing of someone close in the area. People believe that if you listen long enough you might hear your own name in the cries of the Silbón.
