The World Is Flat

Well, imagine you have a big round ball, like a basketball. You can see that it's round and curved all around, right? Well, some people a long time ago thought that the whole world was like that basketball, round and curved all around. But then, some other people came along and thought, "Wait a minute... if the world is round like a basketball, why don't we fall off when we get to the bottom?" So, they started studying more and more about the world and eventually realized that it's actually shaped more like a big pancake or a pizza.

Think of a pizza, you know how it has a flat surface and you can walk on it without falling off? That's kind of what the world is like. It's not perfectly flat, like a table top, but it's mostly flat with some hills and mountains and oceans that make it bumpy.

Even though it might look flat when you look around, the world is actually really big and round. If you think about it, you could draw a straight line from where you are right now to the other side of the world, and you'd eventually end up right back where you started! So, the world may look flat, but that's because it's so big that the curve is hard to see.
