ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thermal pollution

Okay, kiddo! So, do you know how people and animals get hot and need to cool down? Well, sometimes big factories or power plants can also get hot and need to cool down too!

When these factories or power plants get hot, they need to release that extra heat into a nearby body of water, like a river or lake. This is called thermal pollution, because it's like they are polluting the water with their extra heat.

Now, the problem with thermal pollution is that it can hurt the water and the animals that live in it. When the water gets too hot, some animals can't survive. This can also cause problems for people who depend on the water, like fishermen or swimmers.

So, it's really important for factories and power plants to be careful about how they use and release heat, so they don't cause thermal pollution that could harm the environment.
