Thermocline

Okay kiddo, do you know what a lake or ocean is? It's like a big pool of water, right? Well, when you dive into that water, you might notice that the temperature of the water changes as you go deeper. The top layer might be warm, but as you dive deeper, the water starts to get colder.

That spot where the temperature changes quickly as you dive deeper is called the thermocline. It's like a line in the water where warm water and cold water meet, and it can be found in different places like in lakes, oceans, and even rivers.

The thermocline is important because it affects the animals and plants that live in that water. Some types of fish and other creatures have to stay in certain parts of the water because they can only survive in certain temperatures.
