ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thiele/Small

Thiele/small is a way of measuring and describing the parts of a speaker that make sound. It's like the ingredients list on a recipe for sound, but for speakers!

The speaker has a big round part that moves back and forth called the cone, like a drum. Thiele/small helps you understand how the cone will move and make sound based on the size of the speaker and other important factors.

Thiele/small measures things like how much air the speaker can move (kind of like how much water a faucet can let out), and how fast the cone can move back and forth (like how fast you can run). These things help us know how well the speaker will work and how to make it sound as good as possible.

So, the next time you hear some music or a movie on a speaker, remember that there is a lot of science and measuring that goes into making those sounds come out of the cone and into your ears!
