ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thin blue line

The thin blue line is a symbol made up of a blue line in the center of a black and white American flag. It is often associated with the police and law enforcement.

Imagine you have a big box of toys that you really love and want to keep safe. The police are like the big brother or sister who helps you protect your toys. The thin blue line represents the police officers who work hard every day to keep our communities safe and protect us from bad guys.

Sometimes, police officers are not treated fairly or are even hurt while they are doing their jobs. The thin blue line is also a way to show support for the police officers who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. It's a way to say thank you and let them know that we appreciate everything they do for us.
