ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thirst trap

A thirst trap is when someone posts a picture or video of themselves on social media to make other people want them. It's like when you see a shiny toy and you really want it, but your parents won't let you have it. But instead of a toy, it's a person and instead of feeling sad when you can't have it, you just keep looking at the picture or video over and over again. And sometimes people will comment things like "you look amazing!" or "I need your number!" to show the person posting the picture how much they want them. But just like with toys, it's important to remember that people are not objects and should be treated with respect.
