Okay kiddo, so you know what a chord is, right? It's when you play lots of notes on a piano or guitar all at once.
Well, a thirteenth chord is a special kind of chord that uses lots of notes too! It's made up of seven different notes played all at once.
Now, you might be thinking "But wait! That's only seven notes! Why is it called a thirteenth chord?" Well, that's because some of those notes are repeated.
Here's an example: The C13 chord is made up of the notes C, E, G, Bb, D, F, and A. But if you're counting the notes, you might notice that's only seven. But if we go up to the 13th note higher than the C, we actually end up back at the E! So, we can repeat some of those notes to make it a thirteenth chord.
Thirteenth chords can sound really jazzy and cool, and they're used a lot in songs that have a really fancy sound.
