Thomas Sperry is a person who lived a long time ago and did something very important to help people with a problem. He helped invent something called the "airplane gyro horizon," which is a tool that helps airplane pilots know where they are even when they can't see the ground or the horizon outside. This is really important because sometimes when planes are flying they can't see outside because it's too cloudy or dark.
The airplane gyro horizon works kind of like a toy top that spins really fast. The gyro horizon spins constantly inside the instrument panel of the airplane, and it shows the pilot if the airplane is flying straight and level, or if it's turning, climbing, or descending. This helps the pilot know what to do with the airplane's controls, so they can safely fly to their destination.
Thanks to Thomas Sperry and his invention, pilots can safely fly through clouds and at night, which makes traveling and transporting goods much easier and safer for everyone.
