ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Threaded discussion

A threaded discussion is like a big chat where people can talk about different things all at the same time, like in a big playground.

Imagine you are on a playground with lots of other kids. You want to talk about your favorite game, but at the same time, some other kids want to talk about their favorite toys, and some kids want to tell jokes. There is a lot of talking at the same time, and it can be hard to follow just one conversation.

But, if we organize it, we can have different areas of the playground where everyone can talk about what they want to talk about. So, there's a section for games, another section for toys, and another section for jokes. This way, you can talk to other kids who want to talk about the same thing you do, and you won't get confused with other conversations.

That's kind of what a threaded discussion is like. It's a way of organizing a big chat so that people can talk about different things without getting confused. Each conversation is like a different section in the playground, and people can reply to each other's comments, just like they can respond to each other's comments on the playground.

In a threaded discussion, you can create a new conversation or follow an existing conversation by replying to other people's comments. This way, everyone can have their own little area of the playground to talk about what they want to talk about, and it's easier to follow the different conversations.
