ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Three Spheres II

Imagine you have three balls in front of you - one that is red, one that is blue, and one that is green. Each of these balls represents something called a "sphere" which is like an invisible bubble that surrounds certain things in our world.

The red ball represents the "atmosphere" which is the layer of gas that surrounds our planet Earth. Think of it like a blanket that protects us from the sun's harmful rays and helps stop all of our air from floating away into space. When we talk about things like weather and climate, we're usually talking about what's happening in the atmosphere.

The blue ball represents the "hydrosphere" which is all the water on Earth. This includes water in oceans, lakes, rivers, and even underground. The hydrosphere is really important for life on Earth because all living things need water to survive. Think of the blue ball like a giant swimming pool that covers most of our planet.

The green ball represents the "biosphere" which is all living things on Earth - people, animals, plants, and even tiny bacteria. The biosphere is able to exist because of the atmosphere and hydrosphere - we breathe in air from the atmosphere and drink water from the hydrosphere. Think of the green ball like a big garden where all sorts of different living things grow and interact with each other.

So there you have it - three spheres that help make up our planet Earth!
