ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Three-dimensional space

Ok kiddo, let’s imagine we’re playing with Legos. You know how you can make things with Legos like a car or a tower? Well, imagine if we wanted to make something that wasn’t flat like a picture or a drawing.

What if we wanted to make something that was like a real object with height, width, and depth? That means it would have sides, like a box or a ball.

This is called three-dimensional space. It’s a way of describing things using three different measurements instead of just two.

Now, let’s say we were building a Lego castle. First, we would build the base which would just be a flat surface. Then we’d build the walls so that we’d have something that wasn’t just flat.

If we wanted to add even more dimension, we could add a tower or a flag on top of the castle.

So, in three-dimensional space, we can think about objects as having length, width, and height. And just like with Legos, we can use these measurements to create things that aren’t just flat, but have depth and volume.
