ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Timber cruise

A timber cruise is when people go out into the woods and count the trees so that they can figure out how much wood they can get and how much it's worth. They do this by walking around with a special tool called a cruiser stick that helps them measure the size of the trees. They also write down information about things like the type of tree and how tall it is. After they have looked at all the trees in an area, they use a special formula to figure out how much wood there is and how much money it's worth. This helps people decide if it's a good idea to cut down those trees or if they should leave them alone.
