Assam is a place in India that has a very long and interesting history, just like the stories your parents read to you at bedtime. Assam has been around for a really, really long time – we're talking thousands and thousands of years!
The first people who lived in Assam were probably some of the earliest humans who ever walked the Earth. They would have been hunter-gatherers, who hunted animals and gathered food from the land. They didn't have cities or towns like we do today, but they knew how to survive in the wild.

The Ahom kingdom was really important because it introduced a lot of new ideas to Assam. The Ahom kings were also really good at fighting, so they were able to conquer and control a large part of what is now northeast India.
