Timeline of Budapest

A long long time ago, many many people lived in the area where Budapest is now located. These people had their own culture, language and way of living. They were called the Celts and they were the first known inhabitants of the area.
Fast forward a few centuries, the Romans conquered the area and built a city called Aquincum. They built all sorts of cool things like baths, amphitheaters and had their own way of living.
After the Romans, many different tribes and people came and went - Huns, Magyars, Mongols, Turks, Austrians and others. Each time new people came, they left their own mark on the city.
In the 19th century, Budapest became one big city when Buda, Pest and Óbuda were merged. At this time, Budapest was a grand city with beautiful buildings, bridges and boulevards. It was known as the "Paris of the East".
During World War II, Budapest suffered greatly and many buildings were destroyed or damaged. However, the city was rebuilt and became the capital of Hungary once again.
Today, Budapest is a modern and vibrant city with a rich history and culture. People from all over the world come to visit and enjoy the many sights and activities that this wonderful city has to offer.
