Karachi is the biggest city in Pakistan and it has been around for a very long time! Here is a timeline of some of the most important things that have happened in Karachi over the years:
1000 BC - At this time, Karachi was called 'Krokola' and was a small fishing village.
1729 - Karachi was conquered by the Kalhora Dynasty, who ruled over it until 1783.
1783 - The Talpur Dynasty took control of Karachi and ruled until 1843.
1843 - The British East India Company took control of Karachi and ruled until 1947.
1858 - Karachi became a district in the Bombay Presidency of British India.
1947 - After independence, Karachi became the capital of the newly-created state of Pakistan.
1958 - The Quaid-e-Azam International Airport was opened in Karachi.
1960 - Karachi was declared Pakistan's first capital.
1973 - Karachi's first university, the University of Karachi, was founded.
1980s - The city experienced an influx of refugees from different parts of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
1997 - Karachi was declared the financial capital of Pakistan.
