Timeline of first images of Earth from space

From the very beginning of space travel, astronauts, satellites and spacecrafts have been taking pictures of Earth from space. They have also been sending these pictures back to Earth. Here is a timeline of some of the first pictures of Earth from space:

1946: The first ever picture of Earth from space was taken by a German V-2 Rocket.

1962: Yuri Gagarin, the first human to travel to space, took the first pictures of Earth from space while orbiting the planet.

1966: The first color pictures of the Earth from space were taken by the Lunar Orbiter 1 spacecraft.

1968: The crew of the Apollo 8 spacecraft took the first pictures of Earth from the moon.

1972: The Apollo 17 crew took iconic photos of the Earth from space. This image was known as the “Blue Marble” and is one of the most famous images ever taken from space.

1975: The first satellite was launched into orbit to take pictures of the Earth. The satellite was called Landsat 1 and it was able to take large photos of the planet from space.

At the same time, robotic spacecrafts were also sent out to explore space and take pictures of Earth.

Since then, many more satellites and spacecrafts have been sent out to explore space, and are still taking pictures of Earth from space today.
