ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tobacco display ban

Imagine going into a store with your mommy or daddy and seeing boxes of colorful candies and snacks lined up neatly on the shelves behind the counter. It's fun to look at all the different options and decide what you want to buy.

Now imagine if there was another shelf behind the counter, but instead of candies and snacks, there were boxes of cigarettes and tobacco products. These products aren't for kids like you and me. They're for grown-ups who want to smoke, and they can be very harmful to our health if we touch them or breathe in the smoke.

Some grown-ups think it's not a good idea to have these tobacco products on display where kids can see them and be tempted to try them. That's why some countries have decided to make a rule called a tobacco display ban. This means that stores are not allowed to show or advertise any tobacco products.

Instead, the stores have to keep all of the tobacco products hidden behind closed doors or in cabinets. They can't show any pictures or signs that advertise these products either. This is to help keep kids like us safe and healthy by not tempting us to try something that's bad for our bodies.
