ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tokusanhin

Tokusanhin is a Japanese word that means "intellectual property." When someone creates something like a book, a movie, or a TV show, they own the rights to it. That means nobody else can use it without their permission. So, if someone wants to make a movie that's based on a book, they have to get permission from the person who wrote the book. That's called "licensing" the intellectual property.

Just like how you wouldn't want someone taking your toys without asking, creators of books, movies, and TV shows don't want people using their ideas without permission. So, they use tokusanhin to make sure that they are the only ones who can make money from their ideas.

Sometimes, companies will also use tokusanhin to protect their logos and designs. This way, nobody can copy their company's logo or product design without permission.

In short, tokusanhin is a way to protect something you've created or designed so that nobody else can use it without your permission.
