Tombac

Hello kiddo! Today we're going to talk about a thing called tombac.

Tombac is like a metal that people made a really long time ago. It's made by melting two other metals together, copper and zinc. Do you like pennies? Pennies are mostly made of copper, and they have a little bit of zinc in them too. Tombac has more zinc than copper. When people first started making tombac, they did it because it was a cheaper way to make metal things than using just copper or just zinc.

Some things that used to be made out of tombac were buttons, cutlery (like knives and forks), and even some musical instruments like horns. Tombac was kind of popular in Europe in the 1700s and 1800s. Nowadays, people don't really use tombac as much because there are other metals that are better for making things, and they're not too expensive either.

So, that's tombac! It's a metal that's made by melting copper and zinc together, and it was used to make things like buttons and cutlery a long time ago. Thanks for learning with me!
